My, like, really kuul boyfriend and I want to go on a 5 day to week long vacation... Where should we go? Let's assume money is not a real factor, and we'll notch down from there if necessary.
My requirements are:
Gorgeous, possibly lush.
Romantic
Not OVERLY sporty stuff dependant... like, not in the middle of absolute nothingness with nothing to do but dive and windsurf and stuff... I mean, I'm an old Jewish woman.
Picturesque little town/food/booze at least relatively nearby.
Not toooooo humongous of a journey to get there.
I read the post about Belieze, Panama and Nicaragua and wonder if the above could be contained in there? If so, considering the limited time, where would you make a bee line to?

Re: Advice For A Romantic Vacation Please!
Wed, January 16, 2008 - 5:19 PMwith limited time I woudl not bother going to a country where you dont know the language.
I woudl suggest Maui, San Francisco, Olympic Peninsula in Washington,or Guam.
Remember on a 5 day vacation you travel one day, have 3 days in your place and then travel back on the fifth day. So I woudl not go very far from home either.
I woudl save time and money for the farther destinations when you have 2 weeks to go to places like Panama or Nicaragua. Also issues with travel security and such take up more time when you travel out of country.

Fri, January 18, 2008 - 8:39 AMBarbados, not to tuisty, not so large that you can't go to any part of the island for a days wondering. South shore is the happening spot. west shore higher end resorts ( except Spightstown, REALY nice little town good sight seeing, no turist). The best quite / romantic spot to base in , is th east shore, Bathsheba, the Atlantis hotel, or the Sea-U - Inn, next door. The Atlantis is a quaint 125 year old inn / resturant right on the water. Sea-U is a newer hotel. both are small, 10-15 rooms. Bath. is a small fishing village that begs for photos. The coast is breath taking.
If you fish around in my photos you'll find a few pics. -

Fri, January 18, 2008 - 10:47 AMSeattle > ferry to Victoria, BC on the Victoria Clipper > tour Vancouver Island > Seattle
We did this one year and it was awesome! I would suggest staying two nights in Victoria, although the least expensive/most popular package is two fairly full days and one night there.

You absolutely mustn't miss Butchart Gardens.

Alternatively, you could hit up eastern BC, touring the Okanagan River Valley, which I think is like Napa Valley and Tahoe mixed. This is where Canadians go for summer vacation. Totally amazing, especially if you love wine tasting and water sports. Oh, and there's a fruit stand every 100m or so along the main highway. Kelowna is the largest town in the area and is stuffed with charm.

After departing Kelowna, we spent a night at the Neramata Heritage Inn & Spa, which was one of the most romantic places I've ever been.

Have fun! Let's us know what you decide to do.
