    Yes, you are soooo lucky!
Used to live there in the country...Kailua, windward side of Oahu. Just enjoy every minute. The first time you fall into the warm crystal clear water you will know what Hawaii is all about. The life revolves around the ocean. The people are wonderful, warm and inviting, take it easy mentality. Slow down, what you used to do on the mainland takes a lot longer in Hawaii, phone install, etc.
You must have Huli-Huli chiken and go hike the Pali ( take musquito lotion) shaved ice and see the big surf -north shore in winter. Paddle out to flat island in Lanikai, go to see a hula competition. You are going to love it. Don't even acknowledge "island fever" there is everything there you could need.

Do everything, see everything, and open your heart, Hawaii will grab you!
    Aloha.....Krishna

Maui is a little touristy, but check Out Paia on the eastern Coast, really earthy-crunchy and laid-back.

If you're gonna be on the Big Island, I suggest going all the way North to the town of Hawi and hiking down into the lush and magical PoloLau valley. Nothing in the world like it.

it's not hard to settle into the Aloha vibe once you get there. It takes me about a week whenever I go to practice relaxing and to remember that walking around in my bikini top everywhere is not only acceptable but pretty normal.

If it's the right season, eat a ripe lilikoi (passionruit) off the vine for me.

      (sigh)
