Phoenix will be my first stop

topic posted Thu, November 8, 2007 - 12:56 PM by  Sierra
I will be traveling from Santa Monica, CA to Jacksonville, FL and Phoenix will be my first stop. What are some of the best and or funky free or inexpensive things to see or do in the Phoenix, AZ area? I'll be following hwy 10 so anything along the way that I should see I would love to hear about.

Also how cold does it get in January? I'll be there Jan 1st?

I havn't been to PH in a long time, but as I ungerstand it , it has become a big, dirty, dangerous, arm pit, with VERY dirty air.
My Mom works on a dude ranch near Wickenburg, north of PH. in the mountains, and she knows all of the naturail sights, trails ect. She also travels around the country, ( must be in the blood ) . If you contact me off post I can give you her # . I'm sure she can give you some advice.
    Cold nights, plesantly warm days.

awe man! That sucks. That is where my doctor reccommend I move to because I have chronic asthma. Long story short. This trip is extremly important to me because the government banned all new manufacturing of the only medicine that works for me – after it’s gone my expiration clock date starts ticking. So I'm going to make the most of life while I can. :)

Wow I can't belive your doc. suggested you move there ! As I said in a previous post, my mom lives north of Ph. she tells me that comming out of the mountains, you can see a cloud of smog covering the city some days, she won't even go there anymore.
And if dust is an issue for you , you'll have a hard time of it in the south west. I lived in Santa Fe, and Silver city NM. ABQ. is out of the question, serious recirculating smog problems. I gave up trying to keep the house clean. But then I'm a single artist who couldn't afford air conditioning . So take that into account.

I live in Phx now and I moved form the east coast. It is not that cold here now. The air is MUCH cleaner then the cities on the east coast!!!

There is not a lot to do though. If you pick up the Thursdays edition of the Arizona Republic it has a list of events and the local newspaper is the New Times. I have not found it that useful though. If you have internet access you can go on AZcentral.com and find all kinds of info. on things to do. The first Friday of every month has a free art walk in downtown that is a BLAST!

You can contact me if you are looking for something specific; I will do my best to help.
