seeking Alaska travel advice

Greetings,

My husband has the luck of being approved to go to a conference this coming August in Homer, Alaska. I've never been to Alaska before, so I'm super excited that I'll be able to join him after his conference is finished. My plan is to fly up to Anchorage the day before his last day of the conference, then take the bus down to Homer to meet up with the hubbs. We'll spend another day or two there, do some fishing at sea, then head back up to Anchorage.

From there, we're thinking of doing the railroad trip up to Fairbanks, although my husband doesn't care much to travel north past Denali/Talkeetna. I thought the trip north from Denali sounded pretty cool...anyone have any experience on that front?

We were also thinking that it could be a great opportunity to stop by SW AK on the way home to CA, since I'm not sure when if ever we'll have another chance to go to Alaska. I thought maybe just a few days there would be nice, maybe do a quick cruise up to Glacier Bay...?

We'll probably be able to spend 7-9 nights total after the conference. Money's always an issue, so the more budget friendly, the better.

Any suggestions or itinerary ideas would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for any advice you can share.

Cruising Alaska, have you been???

Hi there,
I'm looking for folks who have cruised Alaska, & can give a 1st timer some pointers.
I'll be on the Pacific Princess for 2 weeks on June 11th & I'm really feeling the pressure.
Questions I'd like to know about range from:
What are the:
"Must see" & Must do" things that are the best value for a really tight budget?
Do cruises have radios/CD, or DVD players in their rooms?
I tried to contact the Cruise line directly, but so far nothing.
I'm wondering if that's because I booked last minute?
Any help, pointers, or suggestions are greatly appreciated
Thanks!
Hugs & bright blessings : )

Looking for a Free Travel Blog Website

I love all these sites like tribe and couch surfing and lonely planet. They are a great way to learn and share info.

But it's always kinda lacked as far as being a place for me to document my ongoing travels using blogs, videos and photo galleries, then share them with friends and family.....

So I've been looking for a quality site to:

- Create your own travel blogs
- Create and Post Unlimited photo galleries
- Create Discussion groups (private and public)
- Keep full control over the content and privacy of your own account.

I have found such a site here so I thought I'd spread the word,, it's kinda new but it has it all..

World Travel Blogs

The best way to get cheap flights?

Does anyone have any tips and tricks on this??

Here, I'll share what I know, and you seasoned experts can either support, refute, or add your own ideas.

So far, the best strategy I have is to search the different booking sites like Orbitz and Priceline, etc. Even better, there are other sites that will let you search several of these discount sites with one search. The next thing I do is play around with the airports (if you're flying out of a place like NYC you can do that) and the dates to see the cheapest deal. I have found Priceline and Orbitz to be cheaper than the rest of those sites, but this may vary with your airport and destination, etc.

Usually, after running a few searches you see a pattern, or one airline that is the cheapest. Since usually these sites have markups on flights to cover the cost of operation, I then go to the site of the airline is the cheapest. In my case, I'm looking for flights from NYC to Frankfurt AM; June 3ish - July 16ish, which I thought was far enough in the future to get a good price, but I'm not really happy with nearly $1000. And actually, in this case, it turned out that Priceline's Canada Air fare was cheaper than the ones on the Canada Air site.

OK, so that's where my expertise ends...I would like some clarification on price trends. Typically, the earlier you book the flight, the cheaper it will be. The closer you get to the departure date, the more expensive the tickets get. However, I have heard that if you wait long enough eventually the price starts dropping drastically, say a couple days before the flight, as the airline tries to fill up the empty seats (if there are any! So there is that risk of it). Do you know if this is true? Or how does the price graph look against time? When is the best time to book flights? I'm kind of thinking just showing up to the airport with my stuff and asking them to put me on the next plane to Europe, wherever it goes, haha. Really not feeling like shelling out a grand.

But, please tell me, of your sneaky tactics to get a low price. I would be very interested in hearing them, as I'm sure the rest of this community would. Thanks!!

Hey all - I'm starting the planning stages of my trip to Asia (my first time to that part of the world). I plan on leaving at the end of January and spending 4 weeks traveling to Thailand, Bali, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Beijing (at least that's the general plan for now). I would appreciate any pearls of wisdom, advice, tips, etc. on anything and everything, ranging from accommodations to airfare (especially multi-deatination travel passes) to must-see/must-do sites and activities. I also am seeking out a slightly more spiritual experience - this is not just some party vacation. Healing centers/experiences and exposure to new ways/methods are what I also seek.

So please regale me with your tales of experience!

Thanks.

Seeking crafty crew for projects in Mexico and Uganda

Last April, I toured Uganda teaching people how to sew hammocks, and donated four sewing machines to continue the project... which is called Stitch Uganda Together: http://stitchugandatogether.blogspot.com

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=102380&id=906200533#/group.php?gid=2408133160

This April and May I plan to be back in Uganda, and so I'm gathering a crew to tour teaching circus skills, green building and gardening.

I'm good with a hoop and can walk a slackline. I love building with bamboo. We'll create the Temple of Lost and Found on the slopes of Mt. Elgon. Think of it as the creative-comfort vibe of a Burning Man camp, crossed with the nature and good food of a rainbow gathering, and lots of kids--very sweet kids, who need lots of love, because their folks died in landslides. This is in connection with a village of 2000 people called Bunabumali, in Uganda, on the border of Kenya.

With help from Pacific Domes and Jeff Taylor, I got a 60ft dome from the playa to Mississippi after Katrina to hooked up with a Rainbow kitchen, and we rocked it for nine months. We'll do this grassroots style in Uganda and Mexico too: http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=7741275027359055423

Performers Without Borders has great videos showing their work... and this is the sort of thing we could do:

http://www.performerswithoutborders.org.uk/video.html

and Lucent Dossier in LA(many you'd know) have also done this sort of playful work:

Mid-January to mid-february 2009, Action Heroes will be in Roblito and Mazatlan, Mexico for family camp... and the Mazatlan Awareness Festival. You are welcome to join us!

BAD Timing! - Greyhound's "bus rage" advertisement

Talk about some bad timing...

TORONTO (AP) — Greyhound has scrapped an ad campaign that extolled the relaxing upside of bus travel after one of its passengers was accused of beheading and cannibalizing another traveler.

The ad's tag line was "There's a reason you've never heard of 'bus rage.'"

Greyhound spokeswoman Abby Wambaugh said Wednesday a billboard and some tunnel posters near a bus terminal in Toronto are still up and would be removed later in the day.

A police officer at the scene reported seeing the attacker hacking off pieces of the victim's body and eating them, according to a police report.

Wambaugh said the ads only appeared in Canada and that some in Ontario and western Canada have already been removed. About 20,000 inserts of the Greyhound ads were scheduled to be put into an Alberta Summer Games handbook but they stopped the presses.

The course is indeed Intensive and deeply transformational.
It is intended to help train those poeple who trully want to entrust themselves to Spirit
and dedicate themselves to service.
No prerequisite is necessary, except the absolute determination to face oneself
and do what is needed to allow spirit to flow through us and bless creation.
The next one is August1-30.
Have to fly in and out of la Paz, Bolivia.
Application letters are due ASAP.
The next course is Jan/Feb 2009

For serious apprentices who intend to become full fledged shamans and
conduct medicine ceremonies, at least 4 courses are recommended but it
ultimately dependes on everybody's skills.

Turkish trains?

Hi!

Anybody here ever been on a Turkish train? The consensus seems to be that the bus is "better," but other than being faster, I can't really figure out why. I'm trying to decide between a 12 hour bus trip between Istanbul and Denizli/Pamukkale and a 15 hour overnight train trip in a sleeper, which I think I greatly prefer, but my travel partner is not convinced, since we've heard lots of mostly-unsubstantiated denigration of the Turkish rail system.

I'd love some first-hand experience to help us decide. What do you think?

After Flip Side (a Austin, TX event) I'm driving to southern California to meet up with some Renaissance and pirate fair friends. I'm going to be working for a friend who makes his own metal jewelry and sells them at a variety of events up and down the California state. There may even be some state to state travel. Looking forward to everything new!

If anyone wants a ride from Austin to Los Angeles (or between the two points), I would love to find someone to share gas $ with.

At the end of Sept. I will be heading back to Austin, TX for the winter and hopefully anther Flip Side.

Aloha,

This is my first post.... and my first trip abroad (Berlin & Prague). 'scuse me if this is a silly question but how do you deal with money when you travel?

I've been saving up some spending money for this trip. I'm leary about carrying wads of cash around. I don't have (or like) credit cards. I do have Bank Debit cards with "VISA" on them. Can those be used in Europe? Are Travelers Checks worth the hassle?

Touristic India: Let Me Explain!

Hey, All. I'll explain first: I love the off-the-beaten path, adventurous travel, have lived and studied abroad and have certainly had my fair of wonderful and crazy travel experiences. In fact, I've worked as a flight attendant for the past 12 years.

However, I'd like to travel with my 72 year old father to India and see a few highlights -- comfortably. Crazy, huh? = )
He's in good heath, but walks a bit slower because of painful arthritic ankles. I want comfortable and clean hotels, as he is easily impressed with and highly appreciative of a bit of modern luxury and I don't mind paying for it for quite possibly our most wonderful Dad/Daughter vacation ever.

All I know as of yet is that I want to see the Taj Majal with him, and I want to do as much 'homework' about the trip to make it as comfortable, enjoyable, mind-blowing and non-stressful trip for him as possible. I love opening his eyes to new worlds, but I like to do all of the grunt-work of pre-planning so that I can provide for him the most seamless experience possible. I guess I like playing 'travel agent.'

I'm thinking end of April/ beginning of May. Maybe 10 days tops, which includes travel days. We'll be flying standby on whatever airline -- that isn't a problem as I work in the airline industry and can travel for next to nothing. What I'm looking for is 'must see' spots or tips on a 'touristic' trip which would include the Taj Mahal. Any and all recommendations are welcome, either here or in a personal message. Thank you!

I'm leaving Santa Rosa and driving up to Humboldt on the 22nd. I'll be returning on the 26th, and am open to someone who needs a ride contacting me in a privately. I've also got plans to get down to Los Angeles around May Day. Anyone got a couch to surf out near magic mountain? Or need a ride down there? I intend to be doing a lot of traveling this summer, let me know if your interested. Will probably head up towards Mt. Shasta and Ashland Oregon at some point soon.

Advice For A Romantic Vacation Please!

My, like, really kuul boyfriend and I want to go on a 5 day to week long vacation... Where should we go? Let's assume money is not a real factor, and we'll notch down from there if necessary.

My requirements are:

Gorgeous, possibly lush.
Romantic
Not OVERLY sporty stuff dependant... like, not in the middle of absolute nothingness with nothing to do but dive and windsurf and stuff... I mean, I'm an old Jewish woman.
Picturesque little town/food/booze at least relatively nearby.
Not toooooo humongous of a journey to get there.

I read the post about Belieze, Panama and Nicaragua and wonder if the above could be contained in there? If so, considering the limited time, where would you make a bee line to?

They have children in Europe right????

So my best friend moved to Germany in Jan. (Husband is in the air force) Anyhoo, I'm going to visit her for Christmas for about two weeks. I don't want to spend my whole vacation in Europe stuck on an American Military base (kinda defeats the purpose of being in another country)...so....my idea was to fly into say Rome or Paris, have her meet me there and hang out for a while, then train to her place and spend some time in Frankfurt as well. The problem is that she has a 6 yr old son. So what is there to do in Europe (I'm not set on which cities yet) with a child? I mean they have children there too...so there has to be something right? I want some "culture" but I don't want the kid to have NOTHING to do either.

For laughs: Know what you are ordering when in a new city.

I'm starving but I won't be eating for anther couple of hours. it's not that I don't have any food available. On the contrary I have a pound of broiled crawfish in my car-- that I will not be eating.

The only placed to eat within a mile was two stores next to each other. One was a connivance store and offered a delicious selection of Deep fried gizzards, deep fried mystery meat that sorta looked like a turkey thigh but was bigger, deep fried pig's tail and deep fried egg (or something) rolls – I took 2 rolls to go.

I knew this wasn't going to be enough so I went next door with the thought of ' when in Rome, do as Romans.' I saw a nice big red and white sign that said Boiled Crawfish. Well that was one of the things I said I would have when I was in Louisiana so I ordered the minimum quality of one pound of boiled crawfish. The girl behind the home made makeshift counter giggled and I couldn't blame her. I have no doubt that this girl was laughing at her thoughts that were probably along the lines of “does this chick have any clue what she is ordering?” The answer to that was an obvious no.

I didn't open the bag until I got back to the library. My thoughts were I would sit at the park bench and have myself a nice Louisiana lunch of crawfish. Until I opened and look into the bag.

Everything is included and dis-assembly is required in eating crawfish. I got back online and Imed my boss who is a southerner and asked him how do I eat crawfish?

“you take the head off and the meat should fall right out, make sure it's cooked.”
{GULP}.

Take the head off!?
Make sure it's cooked?

How the Hell am I to know if it is NOT cooked when I try to tear the head off and it says “watch it bitch!”

I could barely even look in the bag and I'm supposed to reach in and grab one? You look at the picture and tell me if you could tear the head off and slurp it on down.... yuck!

You may now start with the Californian jokes.

I am going to Belize and Guat. in april 08. Will be going to Tikal, Cayo Dist sightseeing and snorkling in the Cayes. Web sites indicate that USA atm cards don't work there and very few budget travel bussinesses take credit cards. So how do people take care of this money issue? Also, what do you do with your passport, backpack, etc, when snorkling, river tubing or cave exploring. Thanks!

I know this may not be considered a radical travel trip but it is my first major travel trip where I will be traveling just to travel. No moving from one city to anther or weekend trips.... I will be traveling from Santa Monica California to Jacksonville, Florida than to the Keys and soon…. No more delays I've been putting this off for far too long. I'm making my plans and persistently trying to gain the little things I need to ensure my trip is successful and I'm safe.

... and all will be documented at http://www.sierranighttide.com/

Hopefully live soon!!!!

I am planning a trip to Cancun in the fall and would like to go to Guatemala, Belize, and/or Panama as well. Anyone know which of these countries is safest for American tourists? Also, what about renting a car and driving it around? I know the drivers -- the bus drivers especially -- are beyond crazy in Cancun. Is driving that treacherous in those countries as well?

And, for those who have been, any favorite spots that are a must-see?

Thank you!

Dear Friends

Thank you for your interest to our music.

Last summer we held a throat singing camp in Tuva.

We had 14 students from around the world - 8 of them were from the US, 2 from Australia
2 from Denmark, 1 from France, 1 from England.
After arriving in Tuva, the students spent 1 week in Kyzyl, the capital city.
They were able to see many tourist attractions, see a Tuvan shaman,
and attend the Naadym - National Harvest Celebration.

The students then went on to spend 1 week in the deep taiga, with members of the Tuvan throat singing group Chirgilchin,
learning various styles of throat singing, traditional Tuvan instruments, as well as the Tuvan language.

This summer, we are trying to get 2 groups to go to Tuva again, in either June or July.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Please check our photos made by Russell Roesner - our student.

My Travel Destinations

I'm in the process of proposing corporate sponsorship for my January adventure so I had to actually create a loosely based agenda. But I made it quite flexible to allow me time off in the prospects that the proposal is actually accepted. Who knows, anything could happen. So here is my destinations guide

Jan. 1st, 2008 Santa Monica
Phoenix, AZ
Austin, TX
New Orleans, LA
Jacksonville, FL
Florida
Atlanta GA
Memphis TN
Little Rock, AK
Oklahoma City, OK
Amarillo, TX
Santa Fe, NM
Grand Canyon, AZ
Las Vegas, NV - To replace the horrendous first ever trip to Las Vegas
March 30th, 2008 Santa Monica, CA

If anyone is in these areas I would love suggestions on what to see and or do or just say hello over a cup of tea / coffee.

Mt. Kilimanjaro

Hello! Was wondering if anyone here has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. A group of friends and I are looking at going in late 2008 or early 2009. We just got back from a great trip to Mt. Etna and are eager to visit Africa!

I see lots of safari travel options available that can be organized by various types of travel agents. I'm wondering if one is allowed to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro without being in an organized group. For example, can we pack everything we need, get maps and GPS devices, do a bunch of homework, select the short route (probably Marangu), and go? The organized expeditions include transport to the beginnings of each of the routes and, often, staying in huts along the way. Is it possible to hire independent transportation from, say, Nairobi into Tanzania and down to the beginnings of the trails?

We are only just starting to do our homework on this, but any information you have would be helpful. :)

Thanks so much!

Hugs,
SistaWeotch

Support the Monks and People of BURMA!

After traveling thru this part of the world, I feel personally connected to the people there and am asking YOU to help the monks and people of Burma.

As you may know the Burmese government is now using violence to stop the citizens and monks from protesting against the military regime ruling Burma.
Several hundred monks have been arrested and hidden away.
Please act now to let the Burmese government know we will not tolerate such abuse.

First, there are several online petitions that you can sign. Here are two:

-The US Campaign for Burma is asking people to collectively gather
88,000 signatures from around the world, calling on Chinese President
Hu Jintao to compel Burma towards valid national reconciliation. Sign
the petition by going to:
www.democracyinaction.org/dia/o...on.jsp

-You can also email the EU President to strengthen the EU position on
Burma, at
burmacampaign.org.uk/eu_action.html

Second, you can follow the news online. News agencies track the
stories that get the most coverage, and by reading about Burma online,
you increase the chances that the story will continue to receive
international attention.
The BBC has good coverage: www.bbc.co.uk, as
does
The Irrawaddy, a local source on the Thai-Burmese border:
www.irrawaddy.org

Third, you can donate money to advocacy campaigns.
The org I recommend is:
www.badasf.org
and secondly:
www.uscampaignforburma.org

Also:
ethicaltraveler.org/burma

Cruising to Hawaii, looking for a partner

I am wanting to take a 2 week cruise to Hawaii, preferably some time in October, and I am looking for a partner in relaxation! The cruise I'm looking at is round trip out of Los Angeles, so air fare is cheep or hell, if we want to make a real vacation out of this, we could always road trip it down there! Hoping for another female, as we would be sharing a room.. anyone interested?? I am in need of some serious fun and relaxation in the sun!

peace and blessings be,
jana

Moving overseas.

Hi, folks! Looking for some advice.

What are some good, affordable shipping companies for moving overseas? I went to send a 3.6 lb package to a friend in Italy the other day and the USPS wanted $30! Dang! It's my intention to take 3 bags on the plane, plus carry on, paying for the extra bag. That will get most of my essentials over there, but I'm sure there will be some things I still want to keep that won't fit. I'm a reservist in the Navy, but since this isn't an active duty thing, I don't believe I can use military shipping options. I might be able to convince them to send my uniforms, though, since I'll still be drilling over there.

Ideas and recommendations? I see lots of companies on the web for this kind of thing, but personal recommendations would really help me sort through the chaos. Thanks!

Has anyone been to the Mount Madonna in California? I will be there September 12-16 with my friend Lisa. Are there any scenic routes, traffic routes to avoid, anything to take to make our travels more stress free? Any kind of advice would be greatly appreciated?

Thank you,

Japan: JR rail passes in the USA

Hello there
I am doing a few shows in Japan in November and we are wondering if
is it still possible to get JR rail passes in the USA?
They used to have this really cheap unlimited use 5 day or 7 day JR rail
pass available only to tourists from outside Japan.
Also info on how to get them and/or good Asia travel agent in the US would helpful too.
Thanks!
Jef

WE FOUND IT!
RAinbow included
amaaaaaaaaaaaaaazin g place
3 huge rivers
1 really big where there is river side camping, pretty much eveybody
can camp on the river, then it extends into the second cristal blue
river that emanates from a rock!!!!!! its unbelievable, the rivers
starts gushing straight from the rocks sourounded by caves, and
stalakites, cristal clear pure water, enough for 1000 generations,
its really a celestial place. there are tons of huge pools, and one
that seems like a sanctuary really sacred grounds. Its one of the
most amazing natural wonders i have ever seen. its boggling to see a
cascade come out of a rock! the area is really surreal.
then the cirle can hold around 5000 people at least, holding hands
perfeclty flat, sourounded by the main river. camping can be along
the river, on the main grasslands or in the jungle.
there are no ticks, though at the santuary there are mozzies.
there is a parking spot that can hold about 300 cars easy and is by
the river.
And last but not least is that the land is for sale.
so a community can be formed.
just the water alone is an amazing eternal wealth.
and the beuaty of the spot is priceless, yesterday as we were coming
back, it started raining, as we were wondering if too keep on
looking and just then a rainbow appered pointing to the spot.
hence divine intervention!
We also went with a super amazing crew, and made some music for the
people. We told them what we wanted to do and they were very exited.
so there is welcome from the owners of the land and the recently
emerging miny comunity that is about 5 km from the place, it is very
remote. no people in the area, good privacy.
there is a medium size town about 90 min away, and a full on city
(las choapas) about 150 min away.
So there is a lot of abundance of water and land.
land here is stil pretty cheap.
though i havent closed a price with the owner, he is open to
negotiate and even more if we do what i hope we can make out of it.
We are planing to start the seed camp dragon portal 30 november, and
plant watermelons, tomatoes, cabbage and all kinds of veggies, that
will hopefully give fruit toward the end of the gathierng. We foudn
a horse cart to bring the food in, there are also some canoes. and
we have pots and stuff for the seed camp. though it would be nice to
get in some cool seeds, and people to work in the SEED CAMP
(literally)
We also want to work on the kitchens and some cob building, and
whaetver we need to organize for x amount of people.
the actual gathering will start (Portal resonating dragon) 29 of
january, let me know what you think we havent sealed the dates yet
though we are about to!
hope you are happy, we will compose an oficial invite these days,
but youc an pass it on.
just dont mass mail it please untill we have all the info down.

Travelling to Holland alone: A short story.

Hello fellow wanderlusters!

I just felt the urge to share with other tribesmen my little travel story.

In November, and through some bizarre initial circumstances, I begun talking with a Dutch girl, not much younger than me, through the internet. I am Greek and 18 years old, by the way. For months, we talked and talked, webcams, letters, e-mails, lots of passion in it too.. waiting for the day that we would meet. As you can see, there was a certain mutual attraction from the get go, even if we had never met before. We had promised that we would meet in summer no matter what!

As that time grew nearer, more and more problems turned up, however. The time we had agreed for me to go visit her coincided with her school (July... damn!) and she couldn't come visit me in Greece for other reasons, like parents, money, and others. She did come to Greece in the end, but nowhere near a place we could meet, and with parents too. Eventually, our foreseeable time together dwindled into a mere couple of days at best, so her decision was for us to stay friends during this time. I didn't agree with this, because I am more of the "never waste any chance, you might not be given a second" school... But she persisted. Nevertheless, I decided that I would meet her anyway, so I planned my trip to Holland. 10 days it would be, couchsurfing in Rotterdam, Delft, and Amsterdam. If you don't know of couchsurfing, have a look: http://www.couchsurfing.com

Even if my original reason of going was the girl (and that story didn't go very well), in the end the places I visited and all the things I did there overshadowed the disappointment of the pretty awkward meetings (and always with her friends! Can you imagine?!) I stayed in Rotterdam for 8 days total, because I couldn't find a host in Amsterdam, and got to know the city somewhat. It's truly gorgeous. Rotterdam is really a place I'd like to visit again sometime soon. It's modern architecture, product of battered and virtually fateless citizens with an amazing will to live on, the parks, bikes (which is a trademark of holland anyway), the city's history... It was a breathtaking experience. My host was really cool too. I had adventures on bike during heavy rain, visits to museums and the zoo... If only I wasn't somewhat lonely, then it would have been even better. Yes, it was my first such adventure travelling alone, and it didn't help that the person I really had on my mind the most couldn't be with me most of the time. I decided that while travelling alone might be an enlightening experience for personal evolution, I would far prefer having someone next to me with whom I can share everything. I truly longed for being close to my friends during those days.

Delft was also cool, Hague too. My host there was really helpful and giving. Delft was different than Rotterdam of course, it had the vibe of Ye Olde Holland. Really picturesque town, with the canals appearing everywhere and the typical dutch houses. It was all such a treat!

I don't know why or how, but that country had a certain effect on me. It's so different than Greece, it's like the complete opposite in more ways than one. Even if I never get to meet the girl again, I'm sure I'll visit that country again... Even just for giving another proper chance to Amsterdam, to which I only went for a couple of hours and don't have a real opinion on.

That was my really shortened story... Share with us your own tales of first time travelling abroad, alone! :)

My lady and I recently got back from a 5 week trip to Egypt. We hit most of the major sights, from Abu Simbel to Cairo, and from Mt. Sinai to the Siwa Oasis. It was a blast, and couldn't have gone smoother. If anyone out there needs any tips or advice, let me know...

We consider essential to compliment the reforestations with
environmental education initiatives thus helping raise awareness of the
importance of planting trees and conservation. We work together with
governmental and nongovernmental organization to help monitor the trees.
We organize plantations in schools accompanied by the students, in this
case we prefer to plant fruit trees which also helps the students to
March for global Cooling

This reforestation will be the launch of
a new campaign to help revert global warming.

Remember that the earth does not belong to Mankind
But Mankind to the earth.

We march with the earth
and for the earth

and her voice is our voice!

www.march.nomadsuni ted.com <http://march. nomadsunited. com/>

Why reforest

Reforestations are essential activities to help revitalize the health of
the Earth and combat climate change. Today around the world the
deforestation has grown to an alarming rate exceeding by far the index
of reforestations, this brings catastrophic consequences to the
atmosphere as well as for other organisms that's depend on these forests
for habitat..

We have but a short time to avert damaging and economically debilitating
climate change. We also have all the economic, intellectual and
technological know-how to head off this calamity and avoid the
disruption and misery that inaction would entail.
The solutions are numerous and, as many economists say, affordable when
compared with the costs of complacency.

Globally, forest cover is at least one-third less than what it once was.
It is time to reverse the trends, it is time to act.

Climate change confronts us now. There is no longer conjecture or debate
around an abstract or hypothetical future. We need action. We need to
plant trees and in doing so send a signal to the corridors of political
power across the globe that the watching and waiting is over â€"
that countering climate change can take root via one billion small but
significant acts in our gardens, parks, countryside and rural areas.
Achim Steiner, Executive Director
United Nations Environment Programme

” The question is not whether climate change is happening but
whether, in the face of this emergency, we ourselves can change fast
enough”
Kofi annan
<http://www.unep. org/billiontreec ampaign/>

Our reforestation programs.

Our innovative reforestations combine the plantation of trees fused with
a multicultural events, workshops and temporary ecologically friendly
living spaces that last from a few days to several weeks. This promotes
reforestation events not only as necessary duty of each individual to
combat climate change, but coordinating a culturally appealing and
spiritually earthbinding.

Through the reforestations and creative activities and workshops we
intend to generate a deep and lasting effect, as much for the local
communities as well as for the participants and simultaneously create a
forest or of fruit orchard that can also help as nutritious source of
food of the communities, as well as to absorb carbon dioxide emissions
which are exceeding on our planet.

Another key point is the life and direct experience of participating in
an temporal ecological community with all the benefits and complications
that this carries, thus also promoting ecovillage living and a more
sustainable lifestyle. Workshops are offered on a volunteer basis, We
ask from those attending consideration in order to maintain a
harmonically working community as well promoting principals of respect
towards the environment.

Participants upon arrival are advised to sign in agreement to a letter
of terms conditions that are provided upon entry, in this way the basic
concepts of communitarian life are established and the people are
informed regarding basic notions of how to behave in the environment,
preventing the space from suffering negative ecological effects.
We use horses to transport the baby trees to their location minimizing
our carbon emissions. The event is non-commercial, and is free for all,
we maintain a vegetarian food diet, basic maintenance choirs should be
environmental institutions, we also raise funds through the shows we
offer in the communities.

importance of planting trees and conservation. We work together with
I Reforestation Festival
<http://nomadsunited .com/events/ reforesta1. htm>

Temporary ecovillage habitat.

Participants have the opportunity to offer workshops with a cultural or
ecological focus, like for example: Acoustic Music, permaculture, cob
brick building, African Dance, collective Intelligence, consensus and
facilitation, handcrafts from recycled materials, Horse maintenance and
care, temascal (sweat lodge), Maya calendar, African percussion, yoga,
martial arts and capoeira

In order to be able to live in this communal space that hosts a
considerable amount of people, it is necessary to distribute the work
equitably. For that reason we created the energetic administration that
equilibrates workload. Which is vital in successfully maintain an
organic community in a natural context.

In the morning, after the breakfast we form a circle of discussion where
people take responsibility for choirs and activities. The tasks are
distributed according to the amount of people that attend, divided by
the amount of necessary activities.
Usually during or after every reforestation we take the time to organize
a show for the village, that combines ethnic music, dances and many
acts. We also use the space and time to respectfully transmit ecological
messages.

This innovative initiative seeks to venture into new way of creating
events without a negative impact to environment, as well also to raise
awareness in the participants and the local communities, on the
importance of reforestations and sustainable development in a creative,
dynamic, attractive and effective method.

Hey I was just reading through the Financing your Travels thread over on the Practical Nomads Tribe (here if you haven't seen it)

http://practicalnomad.tribe.net/thread/7ba4318d-a30c-46df-84e6-a658ec1e32eb

and have a quick idea for people who want to make some easy money.

So I just started working at Google in the user interface department (I'm actually saving for a trek from Chile to Argentina in January, ping me if you have any suggestions!). My job is basically to look at how people interact with new products to figure out what we should change/tweak/dump. Right now my department is having a big problem, Google is making awesome new toys so fast that we can't find enough people to test them out. In fact, we're having so much trouble that we just bumped up pay rates for beta testers which now range from $250-$75 an hour (granted it's usually 75-100). Beta Testers typically visit an office in Silicon Valley, Seattle Area, Santa Monica, or NYC but I think there are also offices in london, beijing and hyderabad that do some testing.

Here's the cool thing, we also do tests that are ONLINE so you can sign up from anywhere, perfect for the practical nomad:) I'm pretty sure that the range for online tests is a little bit lower, $40-$200 per study but I've traveled in Asia, India, Africa, Europe, and South America and I know that even $40 extra dollars is enough to keep people from going back to the cube/suit/whatever for at least a few days.

Here's how it works, follow the link, sign up and someone from google will contact you if you fit the criteria for a study.

https://survey.google.com/wix/p0822776.aspx?referral_code=TR2

and I'm not trying to spam this forum, I've been a strong member of tribe since 04 and I love the community here. This is definitely an insider opportunity and I'd be happy to know that it went to someone living out the kind of international adventures we all live for :)

also, if you meet somebody who needs cash you can just tell them to go to

google.com/usability

(easy to remember!) and ask them to mention that they heard about it from tribe (there's a little box in the survey). You're also welcome to email this to lists or post in other forums if it's relevant or you think people would be into the idea. I created a referral code (TR2) but it doesn't really matter as long as you mention tribe.

So that's the deal, if you have any questions you can message me. In general we're looking for people over 18 who aren't programmers or ui designers.

Cheers and Safe Travels!

Hello :)

If I told ya my story you'd certainly have a heart for me!

In essence, A LOT of money was stolen from me simply because I (among other people) were literally set up by the "fud thugs".

If you wanna read my story it's available through my tribe: people.tribe.net/summerlove

In reflection, if you've got the ability, I'm asking for your help in attaining a ticket from NY (jfk) to CA (san) for myself with a puppy carry on. I need to leave August 1st, 2007. Apologies for the last minute request but I was held up attempting to deal with the aformentioned situation of trying to clear my record and get my money back.

If you can and will assist me, please give me a call at: 646-330-5880.

I believe all things happen for a reason so perhaps our friendship is destined to be??!

Thanks so much!

Hello fellow travelers,

I was curious if anyone has taught English abroad. I have been considering this for some time and am wondering how easy this is to do. I'm more interested in temp/sub work rather than long contracts. Any advice? I'm looking specifically at Asia but of course I'm willing to go anywhere.

My friends and i will meet in Bulgaria this August, so i was hoping for some suggestions. It will be a retreat meeting, so the place we are looking for is the one in nature. Does anyone know for some places in Bulgarian mountains or some other nice place in the nature, preferably with a accommodation?

Hey....Just a question for ya all about air fares....Generally how far in advance do you book it? I have been watching air fares and they just took a huge leap, I'm wondering if that was seasonal or fuel costs or what? I'm leaving for Europe on Oct. 1 st, so in your educated travelers opinions when should I snag the golden ticket? I would love for them to come down a bit.....I always get the timing thing screwed up.

Sometime between the dates of late November and early January I will be leaving on an bicycle expedition...taking a train from Portland, OR to southern California then riding my bike to Mexico...once I'm in Mexico I've been considering purchasing a motor bike of some sort - i.e. a motorcycle, mo-ped, etc. and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions - along the lines of what is the best motor bike to purchase and if anyone has ever done anything like this, maybe some advice on how to go about it...my final destination is S.America where I will be spending 6 months to a year exploring, so I would like something reliable to a degree but not super expensive. This is all just one big brainstorm - I'm still considering riding my bicycle the whole way, but am open to other ideas as well...muchas gracias

Panaji, Goa?

Hey, all,

My partner will soon be given a pretty grueling introduction to South Asia (doing health-related work in Delhi, Orissa, and Bangladesh), and she's looking for a place to relax afterwards. We're thinking about visiting Goa, but we're not really hardcore beach people, we're not hippies, and we're not looking to party all that hard.

With that in mind, what do you think of Panaji? How appealing is it by itself, and how easy to get from there to other attractions, like beaches or nightlife? Basically, we don't want to stay right on the beach, or in a big resort or party area. We prefer to stay in a town, with some cultural and historical sites within easy reach. Will Panaji fit the bill? If not, where in Goa?
